Tools used during the colourful procession ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’ celebrating Bengali new year ‘Pahela Boishakh’ were burned during the violence that shook Dhaka University on Thursday.
Violence ensued from protests by students demanding abolition of the quota provision in all public examinations including the BCS.
Some organisations have blamed Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir for the agitation.
After being held off from Shahbagh, protestors took position near Institute of Fine Arts. They brought out some items used in the ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’, or parade wishing good fortune, in April from inside the institution premises.
A giant doll and two birds were among the things torched when police were firing tear shells to disperse the agitators.
