PSC spokesperson Mir Mosharraf Hossain informed bdnews24.com of the decision hours after around 1,000 students, who had failed to clear the test, hit the streets opposing the quota system.
The 34th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary test results had evoked discontent from among the candidates since its publication on Monday.
They set up road blockade at Shahbagh triggering traffic snarls on Wednesday.
Demonstrators contend they have failed to make the grade despite obtaining high marks because of the quota system which has allowed many with much less marks to pass the test.
On previous occasions, the final results of the BCS were published based on the quota system but this time the preliminary test results were announced based on quotas.
The agitators demanded cancellation of the result and amendment of the quota system but the PSC did not make any comment. The students sought an end to the quota system that worked against those with genuine merit.
At noon, The Ministry of Public Administration’s Senior Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder told bdnews24.com the government had not given any directives regarding the quota system.
In the afternoon, the PSC announced its decision to review the results through a media statement.
The statement, signed by Exam Controller AEM Nesar Uddin, said the commission decided to review the results in the backdrop of ‘misunderstanding among several examinees’.
