Justices Borhanuddin and KM Kamrul Kader on Tuesday granted the six months’ bail to him in a case under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

The court issued a rule asking why he should not be granted permanent bail, Adilur’s lawyer Md Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan told bdnews24.com.

The lawyer dodged the question when he was asked if Adilur will be released after receiving bail in this case.

Adilur, a former deputy attorney general during BNP rule, was arrested on Aug 10 from the capital's Gulshan on charges of distorting facts about casualties in the drive by security forces to evict rampaging Hifazat-e-Islam supporters from Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar on May 6.

Adilur has been in prison ever since.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisor AJ Mohammad Ali and Awami League-leaning lawyer AM Amin Uddin was present in his bail hearing. Mohammad Ali was Attorney General when Adilur was his deputy during the BNP-Jamaat tenure.
Additional Attorney General Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and Deputy Attorney General Abdulllah Al Mamun represented the the prosecution at the hearing.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told bdnews24.com that the Odhikar Secretary was arrested under the ICT ACT for releasing manipulative photos and facts about the drive.
Hifazat-e Islam supporters were driven away from the business district where they were staging an indefinite sit-in for their 13-point charter of demand that included banning public mixing of men and women and scrapping of the National Women Development Policy 2011.
The rightwing human rights organisation reported 61 casualties during the operation. Odhikar, however, declined to provide the list of the dead when asked to do so by the government.
Adilur was detained from Gulshan on Aug 10 and shown arrested under section 54. Detective police filed more accurate charges against Adilur and Odhikar’s Director Nasiruddin Elan under the newly promulgated ICT Act on Sept 4.
The ICT case against the two was being tried at the Cyber Crimes Tribunal.
The Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge, AKM Shamsul Alam took into congnisance the cyber crime charges against the two on Sep 11.
The tribunal also issued a warrant of arrest for Odhikar Director Elan since he is a fugitive.
