No report of Bangladeshi victims in France attack so far: Ambassador

No Bangladesh nationals are reported to be among the victims in a terrorist attack in the French city of Nice “so far”, the Dhaka’s ambassador to Paris has said.

M Shahidul Islam told bdnews24.com on Friday that they were in touch with the local authorities and Bangladesh communities following the attack.

A gunman at the wheel of a heavy truck ploughed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice on Thursday, killing at least 84 people and injuring scores more.

French President Francois Hollande called it a terrorist act.

The ambassador said they had circulated a helpline number and email address -- [phone] and [email protected] -- through online portals of the Bangladesh community in France so that anyone can report any missing information.

“We are also in touch with the police department who can give us the most authentic information. So far, we have not found any Bangladeshi,” he said, adding that police are yet to officially give the nationality details of the victims.

Islam said Bangladeshis usually do not live in that city, “but of course there can be tourists there”.
