S Alam Group has taken over Bangladesh’s first private TV station, according to a media release issued by the TV station on Wednesday.

Now the group owns the ETV’s shares, trademark, service mark, logo and all things related to these after buying the station in an auction on Oct 8, the release said.

Changes have also been brought to its board of directors.

The release said Mohammad Saiful Alam was made the new chairman and Abdus Samad vice-chairman in a meeting of the board on Wednesday.

The release also said new appointments were made to the posts of managing director, executive director, along with several other crucial posts.

ETV started its journey as an open terrestrial TV station on Apr 14, 2000.

It was closed on Aug 29, 2002 following court orders during the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami government’s tenure.

The station resumed operations on Mar 29, 2007 as a satellite TV channel after getting permission on Apr 14, 2005.
