Mymensingh municipality elevated to city corporation

Mymensingh Municipality has been upgraded as Bangladesh’s 12th city corporation.

The approval came at a meeting of National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reforms (Nicar) held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in the chair. 

 

After the meeting, Secretary to the Cabinet Division (Coordination and Reforms) NM Ziaul Alam told reporters the new city corporation will comprise Mymensingh municipality, two full unions and parts of six unions from the 13 unions under the Mymensingh Sadar Upazila.

 

The new city corporation will have an area of 91.315 square kilometres and a population of 4,71,858. 

 

Its population density will be 5,167 per square kilometre.
