The inhibitants in Satkhira stretch of the Sundarbans have been evacuated as Cyclone Mahasen is approaching the coastal areas.

Satkhira district Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Anwar Hossain Hawlader said the guards and staff at risky Pushpakati and Natabeki outpost in the deep forest were taken to the coast on Wednesday.
He said people of several unions including Gabura and Padmapukur in Shyamnagar have been asked, through loudspeakers, to take shelter at safe places. All the boats and trawlers arrived near the coast, he added.
The official said around 3,500 volunteers stood ready to tackle the possible disaster.
He said a control room had been opened at Upazila headquarters and holidays of all government officials in the areas cancelled.
He further said 87 medical teams had been formed to provide post-cyclone services and all the cyclone shelters, schools, colleges and madrasas kept ready to shelter the people.
