This was stated during a press conference in local BNP office at city’s Town Hall on Sadr road on Friday, a day ahead of the elections.
Ahsan Habib was however not personally present during the press conference. Barisal south BNP Convenor Ebadul Haq Chan read out a written statement by him.
“Police and other law enforcers were harassing the polling agents and supporters,” he said in the statement.
Ebadul demanded deployment of military for free and fair Barisal City Corporation elections.
Bhola Awami League MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shawon and his gang are in Barisal, he said.
Ebadul also claimed that Awami League-backed candidate Shawkat Hossain Hiran was distributing money among voters. “Police in civvies are assisting them.”
He said the concerned Returning Officer would be notified of the development in a letter after the press conference.
On the other hand, Barisal Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Shoeb Ahmed said no one had complained about it. “Situation is normal here.”
