NIA’s initial investigation has revealed that the terror group has been planning the attacks to avenge the crackdown on radical groups in Bangladesh by the Sheikh Hasina government.

“Interrogation of arrested accused by the NIA continued on Tuesday in cooperation with West Bengal CID. Based on preliminary investigation three persons were summoned in Chennai for questioning by NIA,” a Indian government official privy to the investigation told bdnews24.com.

Ever since India’s premier investigation agency took charge of the Burdwan blasts case last Saturday, the team has initiated search operations in several suspected locations in West Bengal.

“The NIA today (Tuesday) conducted searches at various places including the rented residence of Shakil Ahmed-- who died in the Burdwan blast-- in Beldanga, Murshidabad (West Bengal).

“Certain incriminating documents and metal pieces used in making IEDs have been recovered,” the official said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team along with the West Bengal CID has also conducted a thorough search of the Simulia Madrasa.

Sources said several madrasas in Burdwan district were under the NIA scanner.

The discovery of grenades and bomb-making equipment from Burdwan and the group’s widespread network across India – as evident from the calls they made to their aides in far-off locations like Jammu and Kashmir and even southern states – indicate JMB’s elaborate planning and high level of preparations.

Meanwhile, the NIA has denied reports appearing in certain sections of media that the West Bengal Police and CID were not cooperating in the ongoing investigation.
