Thousands of BNP loyalists have gathered along the Cumilla stretch of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway to welcome Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his way to Feni.
They began assembling on Thursday morning at different points along the nearly 104km stretch from Daudkandi to Chauddagram.
Many stood along the highway carrying banners and festoons at Daudkandi, Chandina, Nimsar, Paduar Bazar, Alekhar Char and Chauddagram, according to local BNP leaders and activists.
A large gathering was seen in Nimsar under the leadership of local MP Jasim Uddin.
Local BNP leader Golam Sarwar also joined activists from Burichang's Mokam Union along a roughly 2km stretch between Nimsar Junab Ali College and Mill Gate.
BNP leaders and activists from the Cumilla South District and metropolitan units gathered around Paduar Bazar and Alekhar Char, where crowds created a festive atmosphere along the highway.
Party activists from Chauddagram, Laksam, Monoharganj and Nangalkot also assembled at designated points to greet the prime minister.
Tarique left Dhaka by road for Feni around 8:30am on Thursday. He is scheduled to inaugurate a flood-control project and a rooftop solar power initiative, as well as attend a programme to distribute Family Cards and Farmer Cards, during the day-long trip.
