The use of artificial intelligence (AI) should be kept within reasonable limits, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said.
The president made the remarks when a delegation led by Prof Muhammad Masud, vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), met him at Bangabhaban on Tuesday.
He said it should be ensured that AI is not used in an uncontrolled or indiscriminate manner, according to his press wing.
He noted that the uncontrolled use of AI is diminishing people’s ability to think and their creative talents. Therefore, he stressed the need to ensure that AI is used in moderation and for public welfare.
During the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed the president on the university’s overall academic activities.
The president said that advanced education should be decentralised rather than remaining focused solely on the capital.
He also emphasised the need for universities to be more closely involved in national-level research and development (R&D) activities.
The VC formally invited the president to attend KUET’s convocation as chancellor. The president accepted the invitation and assured him that he would attend the convocation.
The president’s military secretary, secretary and press secretary, as well as professors from the university, were present at the meeting.
