The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested a man in connection with the death of renowned TV actress Humaira Himu.
The suspect, Ziauddin alias Rumi, was apprehended in Dhaka on Friday, said RAB media wing Assistant Director Al Amin Sarker.
Ziauddin faces charges of inciting the actress to die by suicide in a case started at Uttara West Police Station, he said.
Additional details on the matter will be disclosed at a later time, Sarker said.
Humaira was declared dead by physicians after she was taken to Uttara’s Bangladesh Medical College Hospital from her Uttara residence on Thursday.
Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her apartment, according to the Uttara police.
Ahsan Habib Nasim, president of the Drama Actors’ Association, confirmed the news of Humaira's death on Thursday evening.
“The person who brought her to the hospital left her there and fled. Police are looking for him, but I don't have all the details at this time,” he said.
Azizur Rahman, the Chief of Uttara Police Station, said Humaira resided in her own apartment on Road No. 2 in Uttara Sector-10.
"From what we know, she died by suicide, hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her apartment," he said.
A statement from the Drama Actors’ Association revealed that a friend of Humaira's brought her to the hospital. Doctors at the hospital alerted the police after noticing a mark on her neck.
Upon hearing that the police were on their way, the “friend” left the hospital.
