Alamgir Bhuiyan, 50, and his wife Bilkis Baby, 40, were admitted to the National Institute of Burns and Plastic Surgery at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
Both Alamgir and Bilkis were in critical condition and 95 percent of their skin has been burnt in the fire, Inspector Bachchu Mia at DMCH police camp told bdnews24.com quoting doctors.
The fire started in a room on the fourth floor of a six-storey building with the holding no. 41 at Uttara sector no. 3 around 3:30am, Nazma Aktar, an official at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, told bdnews24.com.
A unit of the fire service doused the fire, she said.
Alamgir’s brother Tanzin Shahriar told bdnews24.com that the couple were asleep in their room and their children in another room of the apartment when the fire started.
“The fire started when the AC exploded very early in the morning. The children rescued them,” he added.
Alamgir is a businessman, Shahriar said.
