Recruitment for the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service, or BCS, is approaching completion.
The Ministry of Public Administration said in a statement on Tuesday that the recruitment notification for the recommended candidates will be issued once the pending medical tests and police reports are cleared.
The statement was released on the ministry’s website regarding the 43rd BCS recruitment, which was initially advertised in 2020.
The Public Service Commission, or PSC, published the final results on Dec 26, 2023, recommending 2,805 candidates for various roles across government services.
The ministry also provided a detailed account of its activities from the interim government’s assumption of office up to Sept 7.
However, the ministry mentioned that some candidates could not attend their scheduled medical tests due to interference from criminal groups.
It has requested the PSC and Health Services Division to arrange fresh medical tests for those affected candidates.
In addition, the police reports for 255 candidates have been sent to the Special Branch, or SB, for further review.
These reports are being re-evaluated due to changed circumstances, and recruitment will proceed once the medical tests and police verifications are completed.
The Health Services Division has not yet set a new date for the medical tests, which were previously scheduled for May 15.
Despite the final results being announced nine months ago, the delay in issuing recruitment notification has caused frustration among the recommended candidates, who have been urging the government to complete the recruitment process.
On Dec 26 2023, the PSC had recommended 2,163 candidates for 2,218 cadre positions and 642 candidates for 1,342 non-cadre positions.
However, the commission could not recommend candidates for 645 posts due to a lack of qualified applicants.
The PSC first advertised 1,814 positions for the 43rd BCS on Nov 30, 2020, with applications accepted from Dec 30, 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the application period was extended several times, closing on Jun 30, 2021.
A total of 435,190 candidates applied, marking the second-highest number of applications in BCS history.
On Oct 29, 2021, a total of 321,650 candidates took the preliminary exam.
