The body of a 37-year-old resident has been recovered from a hole under the elevator shaft of a multi-storey building in Chattogram’s Pathantuli.
The Fire Service and police went to the 13-storey building called “Khan Bari” around 12pm on Saturday after receiving information from locals and recovered the body.
Mushfiq Ahmad Khan, as identified by police, lived on the third floor of the building.
He had been missing since Thursday night, said Double Mooring Police Sub-Inspector Md Ismail.
After dinner, Mushfiq went down to the building and returned after some time, the police officer said.
“We’ve learnt that he took the elevator to the third floor. Some people claimed to have heard a scream then. He had been missing since then,” said Ismail.
The residential building has two elevators and Mushfiq was found in the lower part of the elevator next to the one he had taken, according to police.
“I don’t understand how he got down to that elevator,” said Ismail, who is not sure if it was an accident. “We are investigating.”
Police said Mushfiq had previously been running a business, but was not doing so now.
The body was taken to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.
