The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says it has identified about Tk 33.66 million in unexplained assets belonging to former minister Md Abdur Razzaque, his wife and son.

It has decided to issue notices asking for detailed statements of their wealth.

ACC spokesperson Md Aktarul Islam shared the development on Wednesday, following an inquiry into the assets of the former Awami League presidium member, who is currently in jail.

The investigation also covered the wealth of his wife and son.

Razzaque, a former MP from Tangail-1 constituency, was an influential member of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s cabinet, holding such portfolios as agriculture, food, and disaster management.

According to the ACC’s findings, Razzaque holds a total of Tk 67.24 million in combined movable and immovable assets. However, only Tk 47.76 million of that amount could be traced to legal income sources, leaving Tk 19.47 million unaccounted for.

The national anti-graft agency claims Razzaque failed to offer satisfactory explanations during document checks and interrogation at the jail gate.

He also could not justify about Tk 13.64 million in his income tax returns.

The ACC report shows that Razzaque’s wife Shirin Akter Banu owns property worth Tk 27.73 million, while her household spending was recorded at Tk 5.13 million. Her declared income amounts to Tk 23.79 million, resulting in Tk 9.07 million in unexplained wealth.

Of this, Tk 3.82 million came from other sources and Tk 1.99 million was earned from securities profits between the 2008–09 and 2024–25 tax years.

Their son, Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, was found to possess movable assets valued at Tk 12.17 million. Including expenses, his total comes to Tk 12.48 million, while his legal income amounts to just Tk 7.37 million, leaving Tk 5.11 million unexplained.

The ACC noted that the declared wealth of the three family members does not match their legal sources of income. As a result, notices will be issued under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, requiring them to submit detailed asset statements.
