The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, or BFIU, has asked for the bank account details of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.

The authorities also asked for the account statements of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust.

BFIU wrote to all banks and financial institutions to provide the information, a senior official confirmed.

The BFIU also asked the banks and financial institutions to provide additional information or documents, such as account opening forms, KYC and transaction history, within five working days of receiving the directive.

Hasina resigned her premiership and fled to India on Aug 5 in the face of a mass uprising, bringing an end to 15-and-a-half years of Awami League rule.
