Police say a woman and her mother-in-law have been killed after a bus ploughed into two CNG-run autorickshaws in Chattogram's Dohazari.
At least eight others were seriously injured in the accident that occurred on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway around 11am on Monday, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mohiuddin of the Dohazari Highway Police Station.
The dead have been identified as 70-year-old Fatema Begum from Chandanaish Municipality and her 42-year-old daughter-in-law Shameema Akhtar.
The injured, meanwhile, receieved treatment at local hospitals before being sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Authorties said the Eagle Paribahan bus was en route to Cox's Bazar when it hit the autorickshaws headed towards Chattogram.
“We found two people dead when we went to the Dohazari Health Complex,” said SI Mohiuddin.
“They are a woman and her daughter-in-law. Eight others have been injured in the incident, including the two autorickshaw drivers and passengers.”
Initially, the injured were taken to the Chandanaish’s private BGC Trust Hospital, and then to CMCH.
The autorickshaws and the Eagle Paribahan bus were impounded following the crash, Mohiuddin said.
