Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called for the urgent protection of the country’s youth, again condemning the attempt on the life of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
Yunus addressed the nation at 6pm on Tuesday, during a Victory Day address, assuring that the government is treating the incident with utmost seriousness.
He reiterated that the shooting was not merely an assault on an individual but an attack on Bangladesh’s "very existence”.
“Those involved have been initially identified. I want to reassure the people that no conspirator will be spared, wherever they may be,” Yunus said.
He condemned the attempt as part of a broader campaign by defeated “fascist” elements, adding: “No one can halt this country’s democratic progress through fear, terror, or bloodshed. This effort will be completely foiled.”
Highlighting Hadi’s condition, he said the government has taken all necessary measures to ensure his treatment and safety while he remains hospitalised in Singapore.
Yunus urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, saying: “We will confront the fascist terrorists united, and their return to this sacred land will never be allowed.”
Yunus emphasised the crucial role of youth in defending the nation.
“Protect our young generation, and we protect ourselves and our motherland. Those who fled the country understand that the fearless, selfless youth are formidable obstacles to their return. Their objective is to remove these barriers before the elections and restore their influence.
“The attempt on Hadi is one expression of this plan, with more severe strategies underway,” he warned.
He called on all citizens to safeguard the youth, break free from old allegiances of subservience, and collectively assert democratic control.
“Let us keep the remaining days before the elections festive, ensuring every moment is free from fear, conflict, and violence, preserving peace and unity across the nation,” Yunus concluded.
