CAO promises ‘swift’ action if fire incident is act of sabotage

The statement comes after a fire broke out in the import cargo complex of Dhaka’s airport

The Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO) has said security agencies are conducting “thorough” investigations into the recent fire incidents amid growing public concern over a series of blazes across Bangladesh.

“We wish to assure all citizens that the security services are investigating each incident thoroughly and protecting lives and property with utmost vigilance,” the statement issued by the CAO on Saturday said.

The statement came after a fire broke out at the import cargo complex of Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.

Earlier, major fires in Chattogram and Dhaka’s Mirpur caused significant damage and loss of life.

The government said it would take “swift” and “resolute” action if any credible evidence of sabotage or arson is found.

“No act of criminality or provocation will be allowed to disrupt the public life and political process,” the statement said.

The CAO also warned against attempts to spread fear.

“Let us be clear: if these fires prove to be acts of sabotage, and their aim is to sow panic and division, they’ll succeed only if we allow fear to overtake our reason and our resolve.”

“Bangladesh has faced many challenges before, and together we will face any threats to our new democracy with unity, calm and determination. We have nothing to fear but fear itself.”
