A 4-year-old boy has drowned in a canal in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda Upazila while visiting his maternal grandparents, police said, turning a family trip into a heartbreaking episode.
The incident occurred around 10am on Saturday in Boalmari village, said Damurhuda Model Police chief Mejbah Uddin.
The dead, Rufaiyit Hossain, was the son of Asman Ali from Mujibnagar Upazila in Meherpur.
He had gone to his maternal grandparents’ house with his mother on Friday.
According to police and relatives, the child went missing while playing near the house on Saturday morning.
A search was launched immediately, and his body was later found floating in a nearby canal.
“He might have fallen into the canal while playing inadvertently,” Mejbah quoted relatives as saying.
After completing legal formalities, police handed over the body to the family.
No complaint has been filed in connection with the incident.
