A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of income tax records of Bushra Siddique, the daughter of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s military advisor Tarique Ahmed Siddique.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) spokesperson Tanzir Ahmed said Acting Judge Ibrahim Mia of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges Court issued the order on Tuesday following an application by the anti-graft agency.
On behalf of the ACC, the case’s investigation officer Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan applied to the court for the seizure of income tax records.
The case dossier says a case against Bushra is under investigation. A review of the records and information obtained during the investigation shows she is an income taxpayer.
Under the Income Tax Act, a court order is required to collect tax returns and related documents. An order is required to seize the original copies of her income tax returns and related records and to provide certified copies for review during the investigation.
In addition, the ACC has filed four separate cases against 19 people, including Tarique, on charges of embezzling Tk 8.12 billion from several development projects of three airports.
Earlier, on Jan 28, the court barred him from leaving the country. On Apr 29, travel bans were also imposed on eight people, including his wife, Shaheen Siddique, and daughters Bushra and Nurin Tasmiya Siddique.
On May 14, the court ordered the freezing of Tk 67.97 million across 13 of their bank accounts.
It also directed the seizure of 3.21 hectares of land, five plots, and five flats.
