Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Bangladeshi nationals while they were attempting to enter India illegally through border in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila.

The detentions took place in the border area under Bhitargarh BOP around 8:30pm on Tuesday, said Lt Col Sheikh Mohammad Badrudoja, commander of Nilphamari-56 BGB Battalion.

The detainees have been identified as Shri Ram, 35, from Acchanimbari village in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, his wife Chandana Rani, 33, and Md Shamim, 32, from Chanduri village in Kaharol Upazila of Dinajpur district.

In a statement, the BGB said that based on a tip-off, a patrol team from Bhitargarh BOP conducted a raid in the Poklavita area, about 140 yards inside from border pillar 744/4-R. During the raid, three people were detained while illegally entering India.

The BGB said the detainees made a deal worth Tk 49,000 with brokers to facilitate their entry to India. They recovered Tk 9,760, two button phones and a smartphone from the detainees.

They were handed over to the Panchagarh Sadar Police Station for further legal steps.

The BGB official also said they were continuing raids to prevent illegal infiltration and smuggling in the border areas.
