Omor Faruk is an MP from the Rajshahi-1 (Tanore-Godagarhi) parliamentary constituency and the president of the district unit of the Awami League.
He is accused of violating election code of conduct by organising a programme with candidates of UP polls in Tanore Upazila on March 25.
The EC's election management department Deputy Secretary Shamsul Alam told bdnews24.com, “A show-cause notice has been issued to the MP for violation of election code of conduct. He has been asked to reply to the notice within three working days.”
Earlier, ruling party’s Barguna-2 MP Showkat Hasanur Rahman was also sued for code of conduct violation.
Third-phase of the election will be held on April 23. After that another four-phase of election will be held by June 4.
EC has asked MPs to refrain from electioneering. Following EC’s directive most of the MPs did not visit their constituencies, while some were expelled from the area. A case was filed against one on charges of violating code of conduct.
EC on Thursday also removed OC of Narayanganj district’s Rupganj Police Station on charges of trying to influence vote.
