Student falls to death in Natore during rooftop New Year’s Eve celebrations

“Ishtiaque was trying to jump to a neighbouring roof when his foot slipped," his father says

A school student has died after falling from a roof during New Year’s Eve celebrations with friends in Natore’s Boraigram.

The incident occurred in the Officepara area of the Bonpara Municipal Town around 11:30pm on Tuesday, according to Md Sirajul Islam from Boraigram Police Station.

The victim was identified as 16-year-old Ishtiaque Hossain, an SSC student at St Joseph’s School and College in Bonpara and the son of Iqbal Hossain Babur from the municipal town’s Kalikapur neighbourhood.

Iqbal said, “Ishtiaque had gone to his friend Anir’s house for Dec 31 celebrations. Food and music had been arranged on the third floor of the house of Shafiullah aka Shafi Engineer, Anir’s grandfather.”

“Around 11:30pm, Ishtiaque attempted to jump to a neighbouring roof when his foot slipped and he fell. His friends rescued him and rushed him to a local private hospital. A doctor there declared him dead.”

A case of unnatural death has been filed over the incident, Inspector Sirajul said.
