Flood-hit Noakhali closes primary schools, suspends secondary exams

Primary schools will serve as shelters from Wednesday, says deputy commissioner

All primary schools in Noakhali have been closed as adverse weather disrupts normal life, while half-yearly exams at secondary level have been suspended across four Upazilas.

Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Istiaque Ahmed said classes at primary level were already closed on Wednesday, and teaching will remain suspended on Thursday in view of the emergency.

“With Friday and Saturday being government holidays, further decisions will be taken after reviewing the situation.”

In flood-hit zones, primary schools will also be used as temporary shelters for displaced families starting Wednesday, he added.

Secondary schools and madrasas in Sadar, Subarnachar, Kabirhat, and Companiganj have postponed their ongoing exams for Wednesday and Thursday, said District Education Officer Nur Uddin Jahangir.

"Many schools have been flooded, and access roads to several institutions are underwater. This decision was taken considering the circumstances," he added.
