David Emon remanded for 5 days over extortion case

Earlier, the alleged gangster was remanded for 10 days in two cases over murder and arms, police say

A court in Chattogram has placed alleged criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, on a five-day remand in an extortion case filed with Hathazari Police Station.

Following a hearing on Wednesday afternoon, Chattogram Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim granted the remand petition.

Court Inspector Habibur Rahman told bdnews24.com that police had sought seven days’ remand to question Emon in the case. After the hearing, the judge granted them five days to question him in police custody.

Earlier, on Aug 2, police secured five days’ remand for Emon in a murder case filed with Fatikchhari Police Station and another five days in an arms case.

Police said Emon is accused in at least 18 cases, including a double-murder case, in Chattogram.

On Jul 29, police said they arrested Emon along with three associates from a vehicle in the Jhumjhum area on the Narail-Jashore highway in the early hours.

The following day, he was shown arrested in three cases and sent to jail.
