A tragic gas leak explosion in Narayanganj’s Fatullah has now claimed the lives of all five members of the family burned.

After losing her husband and three children, Saima, the mother undergoing treatment, has died.

Saima, 32, passed away at 8:40am on Friday, according to Assistant Prof Shawon Bin Rahman of National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

She had been receiving treatment with burns covering 60 percent of her body.

Earlier, Saima's three children died while undergoing treatment at the same hospital in the last two days.

Ten-year-old Munni, identified with a single name, who had suffered 35 percent burns, breathed her last at 12:50pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment.

Her death came just three hours after her younger brother, identified only as 7-year-old Munna, died at the same facility at 9:40am with 30 percent burns.

Their sister Katha, also identified with a single name, who had 52 percent of her body burnt, passed away on Wednesday evening.

The blast occurred early Sunday morning on the ground floor of a six-story building in Giridhara of Fatullah. A couple along with their three children got burned in the incident.

All of them were admitted to the institute. They were in a critical condition, Dr Shawon had said.

The children's father, 35-year-old vegetable vendor Md Kalam, died on Monday morning with 95 percent burns.

With Saima’s death, all members of the five-person family have now perished.

Fire Service and Civil Defence officials suspect gas leaked from a Titas line and accumulated in the flat overnight.

The explosion was triggered when the family attempted to light a stove or a switch.
