Autorickshaw driver arrested over ‘rape’ of homeless woman in Chattogram

The driver has been arrested in the port city's Chandgaon area

Police have arrested an autorickshaw driver for the alleged rape of a homeless alms-seeker in Chattogram.

He was taken into custody from the port city's Chandgaon area on Saturday night.

The suspect was identified as 55-year-old Md Abdul Ali, a native of Bhola’s Charfason. Ali is a resident of Chandgaon Residential Area.

The victim, a woman aged around 26, also stayed in Chandgaon Residential Area, begging for alms to survive, said Chandgaon Police Station chief Aftab Uddin.

On Mar 11, Ali took her to a field near a garage in the area and allegedly raped her.

The woman filed a complaint on Saturday leading to Abdul Ali’s arrest, the police officer said.
