BMD forecasts hail, thunderstorms on Eid day

Eid morning storms may disrupt prayers and spoil afternoon celebrations

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and possible hail in different parts of the country on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Many regions have already experienced rain throughout the day due to the influence of the wind blowing from the north and northwest.

Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque told bdnews24.com that on Eid day, temporary gusty or stormy winds, along with rain or thunder, may occur at some places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet Divisions, and at a couple of places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal Divisions.

He also underlined the possibility of scattered hailstorms, while day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country.

Adverse weather in the morning could disrupt Eid prayers, while rain later in the day may affect outdoor activities.

The Met Office said the highest temperature recorded in the country on Friday was 33.1 degrees Celsius in Teknaf. In comparison, the lowest was 19 degrees Celsius in Syedpur and Rajarhat.

The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Madaripur at 33mm, while Dhaka received 17mm.

The BMD has forecast scattered rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms in different parts of the country until Tuesday.
