The government has appointed Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury as the next ambassador and permanent representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The foreign ministry on Sunday made the appointment of the diplomat to the new role.
Salahuddin will take over from Md Abdul Muhith, who has held the position since June 2022 and is set to retire in December.
Ambassador Salahuddin has been serving as the head of the Bangladesh mission in Nepal since Nov 11, 2020.
He joined the foreign ministry in 1998 and worked in the Bangladeshi embassies in New Delhi, Islamabad, and New York in different capacities.
Salahuddin also held positions in departments such as administration, external publicity, multilateral economic affairs, protocol, and in the United Nations, South East Asia and Foreign Service Academy.
