The government has decided to send four jail superintendents into compulsory retirement.
The Security Services Division under the home ministry confirmed this by issuing separate notices on Thursday.
The officials are Subhash Kumar Ghosh of Shariatpur, Bazlur Rashid Akand of Manikganj, Mokhlesur Rahman of Tangail, and Nesar Alam of Habiganj.
Among them, Subhash had nine years left in service, Bazlur two years, Mokhlesur four months, and Nesar nearly three years.
The notification invoked section 45 of the Public Service Act 2018, which allows compulsory retirement in the public interest after 25 years of service.
According to the section, “The government may, at any time after an officer has completed 25 years of service, retire them in the public interest without providing any reason.”
Syed Motaher Hossain, inspector general of prisons, said on Tuesday that reforms were underway to enhance the prison system's efficiency.
He also highlighted that action was being taken against officials facing corruption allegations.
A day after his statement, the four superintendents were retired.
