Victim Khadiza Begum Nargis’s uncle Abdul Quddus lodged the case on Tuesday afternoon at Shah Paran Police Station, said OC Shahjalal Munsi.

Khadiza, an honours second year student, was attacked in a gruesome manner at MC College campus on Monday afternoon by Badrul Alam, an economics department student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

Badrul, who is also the assistant secretary of the university's BCL unit, was, however, detained by police right after the incident.

Sylhet Government Women's College students demonstrated on Tuesday protesting against the attack on Khadiza Begum Nargis.

“Badrul is the sole accused in the case. However, he is currently admitted at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital as he was injured after being beaten by the locals,” he said.

OC Munsi said Badrul would be presented before the court after receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Khadiza was brought to Dhaka and admitted to Square Hospitals in a critical condition in the early hours of Tuesday. She is set to undergo a surgery there.

Her classmates formed human chains in front of the Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar and on the MC College premises demanding punishment to Badrul.
