Police have recovered the dead bodies of a married couple and their two daughters in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar Upazila.

According to Sirajul Islam, the assistant superintendent of Nabinagar Police Station, the bodies were recovered from the Bijoypara municipality area around 9am on Sunday.

The dead were identified as Shohag Mia, 32, his wife, Jannat Begum, 22, and daughters Fahima, 4, and Tahmida, 2.

“Shohag went to sleep in his room with his wife and two daughters at night. They generally wake up early every day. So, when the other members of the family didn’t see them in the morning, they called them.”

However, the ASP said that the family did not get a response even after they called them several times.

Later, with the help of locals, the family broke down the door and found the dead bodies in the room.

“The bodies of Shohag and one of his daughter was found hanged. His wife Jannat’s body was on the bed beside the dead body of the other daughter,” he added.

According to police, the preliminary investigation reveals that the incident may have occurred due to a family dispute.

“We have reason to believe that Shohag first strangled his wife Jannat with a veil around her neck. Later, the two daughters were killed, and he committed suicide,” said SP Shakhawat Hossain.

“Shohag’s body was found hanging in the room,” he added.

According to SP Shakhawat, the police are investigating the matter to uncover the reason for the deaths.

The bodies of the victims have been sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital’s morgue.
