Titas Gas will suspend gas supply for eight hours in several areas of Keraniganj to replace a leaking valve at the Pangaon valve station.

In a notice, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC said all types of customers in Jinjira, Doleshwar, Pangaon and parts of Keraniganj will have no gas supply from 11am to 7pm on Tuesday. Gas pressure may also remain low in surrounding areas during this period.

Titas said an outlet valve at the Pangaon valve station has developed a leak. The temporary suspension is necessary to replace the faulty valve.

Valves are used in gas pipelines to control or shut off the flow of gas in specific sections. If a valve develops a leak, it needs to be repaired or replaced to ensure safety and uninterrupted supply.

Keraniganj is part of Titas’s Metro Dhaka South gas distribution network. The company’s emergency contact information also lists Keraniganj, Jinjira, Aganagar, Kaliganj and surrounding areas under Metro Dhaka South. Titas’s Jinjira branch office is also located in Keraniganj. According to information on the company’s website, the branch handles customer service and gas distribution-related activities in the area.

Recently, the country’s overall gas supply has remained below demand, with many areas in and around Dhaka already experiencing complaints of low pressure. Against this backdrop, a temporary suspension for pipeline or valve maintenance could further worsen the shortage in the affected areas.

Titas’s notice did not specify how long it would take for gas supply to fully return to normal after the work is completed.

The Titas authorities apologised to customers for the temporary inconvenience.
