A man has been trampled to death by a wild elephant in Cox's Bazar's Ramu Upazila.
The incident occurred in the Chikonchhari area under Rajarkul Union on Saturday, according to Ramu Police Station chief Iman Kanti Chowdhury.
The victim, Abdul Haque, 47, was a resident of Dhalarmukh in the same union. He had served as the president of the Dhalarmukh Noyapara Social Committee.
Citing local residents, the police said that Abdul Haque had left home early in the morning for business purposes. While travelling to Chikonchhari to collect paddy, he encountered a herd of wild elephants. The elephants attacked him and he was trampled to death on the spot.
“Wild elephant activity in the area has increased over the past few days. Their intrusion into residential areas has caused damage to homes and property, leaving the locals fearful,” Rajarkul Union Parishad Chairman Mufizur Rahman said.
OC Iman Kanti added that police recovered the body from the scene and prepared a report on the incident. After completing legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family.
