The principal secretary at the Prime Minister's Office has lost his job with immediate effect, just 24 hours before Mohammad Tofazzel Hossain Miah was to get a new boss.
Miah recently had his tenure extended for a second time for another year on Jun 26 by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He was appointed principal secretary on Dec 7, 2022, after serving as senior secretary at the PMO.
His previous term had expired on Jul 4, 2023, leading to a one-year contract extension.
The abrupt termination of Miah's contract comes amid ongoing changes following Hasina's resignation and departure from the country.
The interim government process is now underway.
