The 38-year-old was suffering from dengue fever.

He passed away while being airlifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital from Dhaka’s United Hospital, Moudud’s personal secretary Shahidul Islam said on Tuesday.

“The air ambulance reached Singapore around 4:30am. We were informed over phone that Momtaz had died a little before reaching there,” he told bdnews24.com.

Moudud Ahmed and his wife Hasna Moudud were on the aircraft.

Momtaz was admitted to United Hospital on Sep 9. Tests revealed he had dengue fever.

He was shifted to the ICU as his temperature was not subsiding. Doctors advised shifting him to Singapore.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia conveyed her condolences to Moudud and his family in a statement. BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who is currently undergoing treatment in the US, also expressed his deep sorrow.
