Narsingdi, March 27 (BDNEWS) - Shamsuddin Ahmed Ishaq, a ruling BNP lawmaker from Narsingdi-1 (Sadar), died at Comfort Hospital in the city at 2.45pm Sunday. He was 73.
He has been suffering from diabetics and kidney diseases for long.
Shamsuddin, a four-time member of the parliament since 1991, was survived by three wives, six sons, four daughters, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
During his long political carrier, Shamsuddin, who was also a regular lyricist of state-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, held the posts of Narsingdi poura vice-chairman and chairman.
He was also the editor and publisher of the weekly Arshite Mukh being published from Narsingdi.
A pal of gloom was descended in Narsingdi district as soon as the news of the death of Shamsuddin, a popular leader among the poor, was spread in the area.
Local leaders of different political and socio-cultural organisations, including ruling BNP and opposition Awami League (AL), expressed their deep shock at his death.
The first namaj-e-janaza of the late lawmaker will be held at the South Plaza of Sangsad Bhaban at 10am while the second one at BNP central office premises at 11am Monday.
Later, the body will be taken to Narsingdi for burial, party and family sources said.
