A woman has allegedly died in Natore town after she was hit by her son, who has a speech disability.

Police have arrested the son over the incident.

The incident took place in the Mallikhati Ghoshpara area around 11:30pm on Sunday, said Natore Sadar Police Station chief Mansur Rahman.

The deceased, 55-year-old Shahida Begum, is the wife of local resident Star, identified by a single name. Her son, 35-year-old Arif, has been arrested, Mansur said.

According to police and locals, Arif often got agitated with his mother and attacked her.

They said that on Sunday night, the mother and son got into an argument. Arif got angry and hit his mother in the head with a stone. Shahida died on the spot.

Police official Mansur said that, when informed, police went and recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to the Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Legal action over the incident is under way.
