Police have recovered the body of a housewife in Kushtia, who was allegedly killed by her husband.

The body was found in a rented house in the municipality's Housing area around 10pm on Saturday, said Kushtia Model Police Station chief Mosharraf Hossain.

The victim, 35-year-old Urmi Khatun, was the daughter of Mahim Mandal from Kushtia's Gopalpur village. Her husband, Rana Khan from Mirpur Upazila, is in the police's crosshairs.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for an autopsy.

Urmi's brother Abu Sayeed said his sister, who had a previous marriage, tied the knot with Rana five years ago. They used to run a clothing and food shop in front of City College and lived in rented house in the Housing F-Block with their two children.

"The couple had arguments ever since they got married. My sister was beaten and strangled to death due to a domestic dispute. Urmi has injury marks on various parts of her body. Rana has been absconding since the incident," said Abu Sayeed.

OC Mosharraf said preliminary investigation suggests that Urmi was beaten and strangled after a domestic quarrel. Efforts are under way to arrest Rana, he added.
