The government is providing a special allocation of Tk 10 million to secure a flat for the family of Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The funds will cover the purchase and furnishing of a 1,215sqft flat in Doel Tower, Lalmatia, Dhaka.
The allocation was approved by the finance ministry on Tuesday, following a request from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The handover of the flat is conditional on confirming the identities of Hadi’s wife and child. The amount will be drawn from the housing ministry’s Tk 60 million current-year budget for residential buildings.
Hadi, convenor of the Inqilab Moncho and a prospective candidate, rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League.
He had announced his candidacy as an independent for the Dhaka-8 seat in the parliamentary elections.
On Dec 12, while campaigning in Bijoynagar, he was shot by attackers on a motorcycle.
Gravely wounded, Hadi was air-ambulanced to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on Dec 18.
Following his death, Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus vowed that the state would look after Hadi’s widow and only child.
