Another child has died with measles-like symptoms while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chattogram, taking the death toll over three days to three.

Health authorities confirmed the latest death on Thursday afternoon.

The child passed away on Monday while receiving treatment at International Medical College Hospital in Chattogram, Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam said.

He added that the patient was from Noakhali and had been admitted with measles symptoms, with samples sent to Dhaka for testing though results are still pending.

Two other children from Cox’s Bazar had died earlier at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) -- a 9-month-old in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on Wednesday night and a 6-month-old on Tuesday.

On Thursday, 17 more children with measles symptoms were admitted across the city, bringing the total under treatment to 93.

Eight children have tested positive so far - six from the city and two from Upazilas.

Additional samples were sent to the capital on Thursday, taking the total to 123, with 111 already at the National Polio and Measles-Rubella Laboratory (NPML).

Dr Jahangir urged parents to consult doctors if children show fever, cold, cough, rash, or eye discharge, and to seek hospital care for persistent fever or complications.

Children with measles or related symptoms are being treated at CMCH’s measles corner, Chattogram General Hospital, and the private Maa-o-Shishu Hospital.

CMCH has also set up a dedicated Paediatrics corner for children with measles and pneumonia.
