US Deputy National Security Advisor Alex N Wong has held a teleconference with Khalilur Rahman, the chief advisor's high representative, to discuss key bilateral issues.
According to a statement from the Chief Advisor’s Office, the two sides covered a broad range of mutual concerns and agreed to maintain contact on Wednesday evening.
This marks the highest-level dialogue between the new US administration and Bangladesh’s interim government to date.
The statement also highlighted the recent US pledge of $73 million in new financial aid for Rohingya refugees.
The US remains the largest donor to Rohingya assistance, having provided nearly $2.4 billion since 2017, including emergency food and nutrition support through the United Nations.
The US has also decided to honour female student leaders of Bangladesh’s July Uprising with the prestigious Madeleine Albright Honorary Group Award, the statement added.
