The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman ordered his arrest on Monday after the veteran antagonist of Bangladeshi cinema failed to appear before him.
On Mar 5, a businessman, Mosharraf Hossain Sumon, filed a case against Sharif after a cheque of Tk 167,000 issued by Sharif was dishonoured.
Lawyer Rokon Reza Sheikh after filing the case said the court had summoned Ahmed Sharif.
“Since he did not appear before the court today (Monday), the plaintiff appealed for an arrest warrant. The court, accordingly, issued the warrant.”
The court ordered law enforcers to submit a report on Aug 1 if Sharif could not be arrested by that time, said Rokon Reza.
According to the chargesheet, the defendant owed Tk 167,000 to Mosharraf Hossain and he gave him a cheque of the said amount issued from Eastern Bank.
However, Mosharraf failed to withdraw the money as the cheque bounced twice.
Later, Mosharraf sent legal notice to Ahmed Sharif to pay the money but it went unheeded.
Finally, he filed a case against Sharif.
