Dhaka, March 19 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladeshi photojournalist Pavel Rahman of the Associated Press has won the Award of Excellence in the 65th annual Picture of the Year International (POYi) contest, AP announced Wednesday.
Pavel Rahman is among seven photojournalists from Associated Press—the New York based international news agency—who have been named winners of the prestigious competition for their work in 2007.
About 45,000 images were entered by photographers, magazines and news agencies around the world.
Pavel's award winning picture titled "Deadly Mudslide" was snapped after the mudslide tragedy in Chittagong on June 12, 2007 that also won several other international prizes.
Photojournalist Pavel also won several awards for his work during Cyclone Sidr in November last year.
The POYi award is organised with a view to recognising excellence in documentary photography and photojournalism, within both still and motion formats.
