Dhaka, April 19 (BDNEWS) – A serious allegation of land grabbing and rioting against Mahi B Chowdhury, organising secretary of Bikalpa Dhara and son of former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, has been raised.
Professor Rafiqur Rahman Khan, an eye specialist of Islamiya Eye Hospital, Tuesday raised the allegation through a press conference here.
Dr Rafiq alleged that Mahi, along with his armed cadres, grabbed his 12 kathas of land at plot number 12/20 on road number 2 in Shyamoli.
He also claimed that he bought the land from one Anwar Hossain and Kamrul Hossain in 1986 at a cost of Tk 24 lakh.
"But I could not construct any building due to lack of money, rather set up a makeshift room and appointed a caretaker there," Dr Rafiq said adding: Later, I went abroad for higher studies.
"Taking the opportunity of my absence, Mahi grabbed the land, ransacked my makeshift room and beat the caretaker up mercilessly," he alleged.
Dr Rafiq also alleged: Later, I came to know that Mahi's mother-in-law Faizunnesa filed a 'false' case claiming the land. I also filed a case. After hearing the case, the court issued a permanent injunction on Faizunnnesa asking her not to go to the land."
"Now Mahi is issuing death threat to me and also putting pressure on me to withdraw the case," he also alleged.
"Now I am passing my days in fear. I want safety and security for me and my family members," he pleaded.
Mahi B Chowdhury, however, could not be contacted despite repeated attempts over telephone.
