The Supreme Court on Thursday has thrown out a petition by the Jamaat-e-Islami chief to review the death penalty awarded to him for atrocities during the 1971 Liberation War.
“All the legal battles are over. Whether he will to seek mercy is something he and his family will decide,” lawyer SM Shajahan told mediapersons outside the courtroom.
Once the full verdict of Thursday’s order is published, a certified copy of it will be sent via the war crimes tribunal to the jail, when the prison authorities will ask him whether he would go for a mercy petition.
