The court of the district’s Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday accepted the chargesheet filed by police and ordered the arrests.
Police accused the Tangail-3 MP, his three brothers — former Tangail mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former Bangladesh Chhatra League vice-president Saniyat Khan Bappa and former Tangail Chamber of Commerce president Jahidur Rahman Khan Kankan — and 10 others for the 2013 murder.
Freedom Fighter Faruk Ahmed was shot dead in front of his residence at College Parha in Tangail on Jan 18 the same year.
His wife filed a case accusing unidentified people, but later claimed at a media briefing that the Khans were behind the murder.
The family claimed Ahmed was killed because he wanted to contest party elections to get elected as Tangail Awami League’s general secretary.
Police said that two suspects, arrested over the murder, had said in their confessions at court that the brothers were involved.
MP Rana and his brother former mayor Mukti went to the High Court seeking anticipatory bails. The court then ordered police not to arrest or harass them. But in December last year the order was stayed.
According to media reports, the two are now in the country but Kakon and Bappa have left.
