Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made a surprise visit to seven ministries at the Secretariat on Sunday morning, his first working day in the office after the Eid holidays.
Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman said the prime minister arrived at the Secretariat at 9:05am and immediately began the inspection.
“He first visited the Ministry of Power and Energy in Building No. 6. There he entered various office rooms, spoke with officials and staff, and offered suggestions on preventing waste and ensuring efficiency,” he said.
“These included reducing the unnecessary use of lights, limiting or regulating the use of air conditioners to cut electricity consumption, and making better use of daylight by opening window curtains. The prime minister also told officials and staff: ‘To truly love the country, you must nurture that love in your heart. This country belongs to all of us.’”
He also advised maintaining cleanliness of office furniture and equipment across ministries, stressing that government property is national property and must be cared for properly.
According to the additional press secretary, the prime minister went on to visit the ministries of Water Resources, Health and Family Welfare, Environment and Forest, Social Welfare, Fisheries and Livestock, and Housing and Public Works.
Officials and staff were seen caught off guard by the sudden inspection, with many scrambling into action. In several ministries, the visit took place just as employees were arriving for work.
After completing the surprise visits, the prime minister returned to his office and chaired a meeting of the special committee on the agricultural card initiative. Agriculture Minister Aminur Rashid, along with secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries, attended the meeting.
